Playing the guitar is a very exciting thing if we already know the technique, we will be excited to play the guitar. The technique of playing the guitar varies, and we must learn it to broaden our knowledge of playing the guitar. There are guitar playing techniques for rock, jazz, blues, pop, country, or classical music, all of which each have a specific technique.
1.) Picking Technique
The picking technique is a technique of plucking the strings using a tool called a pick. Pick is a tool that is usually held between the index finger and thumb. The tools are made of plastic, nylon, rubber, or some are even made of stone. Picking techniques are also very diverse, ranging from alternate picking, economic picking to harmonic picking. Here are some picking technique methods:
- Up-stroke picking is a technique of picking the strings upward. In the usual tablature symbolized by the image V.
- Down-stroke Picking is a technique of plucking the strings downwards. In tablature it is denoted as .
- Arternate Picking/Tremolo Picking is a combination of upstroke picking and downstroke picking. Economic Picking is a variety of picking. Usually used for fast solo guitar playing.
- The economic technique is sounding 2 notes on 2 strings in one verse.
- Circle Picking is a picking technique that is not much different from economic techniques, but to distinguish it from circle picking, the strings are picked by twisting like a circle so as to produce a smoother sound.
- Tremolo Picking is the same technique as arternate picking, variations of tremolo can usually be distinguished when one note is picked frequently (repeatedly) and quickly.
- Sweep Picking is a technique of several strings at once, up and down based on arpeggios notes.
- Harmonic Picking is a picking technique to find harmonic notes.
- Tapping Picking is a picking technique that is done by hitting the strings on the guitar freet quickly or slowly. This technique is usually played by Joe Satriani when he is on a guitar solo
2.) Strumming
The strumming technique is a technique of strumming two or six strings together. This strumming or strumming technique can only be done with fingers or a tool called a pick or plectrum or plectron.Like picking techniques, strumming consists of two ways, namely downstroke (strumming the guitar from top to bottom) and upstroke (strumming the guitar from bottom to top).
The strumming technique in each music genre is different. Dangdut music strumming will be very different from pop songs, or with rock songs. Each has its own characteristics, you can dissect it by listening to the songs that are sung. You can also follow how it plays by listening and following it. The strumming technique must continue to be practiced so that you become a proficient and skilled guitarist.
Tapping technique is basically the same as hammer on. The difference is in the tapping technique, both the right and left fingers must both do the hammer on technique.

3.) Hammer on
The Hammer On technique is a technique of playing two tones (or more) starting from a low tone to a higher note with one quote or you could say the technique of sounding two notes in a short time interval. You do this by pressing the initial note, then pressing a higher note just one quote.4.) Pull Off
In the Hammer On technique, we also know the pull off technique. The pull off technique is a technique of playing two (or more) notes starting from a high note to a lower note with one quote. The technique is by pressing the plucked initial note and then sounding the second note, while simultaneously releasing the finger on the first note.5.) Tapping
Tapping is a guitar technique popularized by Van Hallen guitarist Edie Van Hallen. The technique is very popular in line with the popularity of the Dutch band. This technique is a technique that must be learned by rock guitarists until now.Tapping technique is basically the same as hammer on. The difference is in the tapping technique, both the right and left fingers must both do the hammer on technique.
